Research Topic
I've decided to write about the role of disease in the family as well as society. Specifically, I wanted to write about the skin disease Epidermolysis Bullosa, which my grandparents' children had. I don't know of any disease that is as unrelentingly painful as Epidermolysis Bullosa. This condition causes skin to be so weak that a simple rub on the arm will rip all skin off exposing flesh. The body is covered in blisters and sores and even things like sitting down for too long will tear the skin open. There are so many horrible things and trials that come from a disease like this, but I wanted to focus my paper on the good things that can come from disease. Some things I thought of are that it brings out the best in others (compassion/empathy etc.) and it gives opportunity to show love and service. It also brought out courage in my Aunt and Uncle. They were so brave and their bravery was an inspiration to others and strengthened the human spirit. Seeing the impact of this disease affects values as well and helps one know what is important in life. It gives gratitude for health that would normally be taken for granted.

I think it's really cool that you're going to focus on the good things that come from the disease. It will definitely give a new perspective to everyone, especially those who have had family members that suffer from the disease. It would be good to do some in-depth research of the disease and its horrible effects, that way the good things will be easier to recognize and appreciate. I think it will be a very uplifting topic!

Good word choice for unrelentingly! You could talk about the effects that it has not only on people that have it but on their family members too maybe. I like how you said you'll talk about the feelings of sympathy or whatever it may be.

I would never be able to research something like this, I probably would lose my stomach. But good for you, go for it!
ReplyDeleteThat is such an interesting, unique topic. I like Will's idea of providing contrast in your paper, so that your reader can fully appreciate the topic.
